Services

People come to a psychologist for many reasons; learning to manage their stress levels, anxiety, confusion with decisions, the processing of emotions, occupational concerns, overwhelm, lack of direction in life, depression, rumination and busy mind, intrusive thoughts, relationship challenges, health concerns, difficult family dynamics, grief and more.

I have worked extensively with adults and youth. My goal is to truly listen to and collaborate with people to discern what will best help them in their particular situation. Some people need support for a specific situation, others seek to develop new perspectives, learn new coping strategies and effective communication. Many benefit from learning awareness and management of their emotions thus giving them more confidence, personal skill, improved energy, self-compassion and increased resilience.

With my changing practice, I will soon offer seminars and public talks. I have enjoyed public talks in the past and will add that back into my offered services shortly.

Suggested topics may be; psychological boundaries, healthy emotional awareness and management, interpersonal communication and relationships, personal organization and the creation of healthy structure, wading through the complexities of managing the many faces of stress and more.

I work on the Board of directors of British Columbia Psychological Association as the Secretary. The association is comprised of approximately 850 BC psychologists. I also serve on two committees; membership and continuing education.

I am a member of a group of psychologists who meet regularly to consult with one another and discuss relevant research and ethical issues.

I also regularly donate blood at the Canadian Red Cross.

Treatment Modalities

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MBCT) is a therapeutic approach blending traditional cognitive behavioural techniques with mindfulness principles. Developed by Segal, Williams, and Teasdale, MBCT emphasizes cultivating a non-judgmental, present-focused mindset through enhanced awareness of one’s emotions, thoughts and behavioural patterns.

This integrative therapy aims to complement emotional well-being and increase resilience by developing awareness of unhelpful patterns and developing helpful cognitive and behavioural patterns through mindfulness.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a psychological treatment modality that encourages individuals to accept their thoughts and feelings rather than trying to change or control them.

Developed on the basis of mindfulness and behavioural therapy principles, ACT aims to help individuals live more meaningful lives by identifying their values and committing to actions aligned with those values. Central to ACT is the promotion of psychological flexibility, enabling individuals to be open, adaptable, and committed to actions that contribute to their overall well-being.

Solution-Focused Therapy focuses on identifying and building solutions rather than on problems. This approach involves exploring clients' strengths, resources, and past successes to collaboratively develop achievable goals.

Through brief and goal-oriented conversations, Solution-Focused Therapy aims to facilitate positive change by emphasizing solutions, exceptions to problems, and the person’s capacity to construct a preferred outcome.

About Us

I have had the pleasure to work for over 30 years managing and supporting a large Employee and Family Assistance program. I am changing my focus to my private practice, public support, and any other creative adventures that may spark my interest.

My commitment to my work as a psychologist has deepened over the years and I am very fortunate to love what I do. My passion for psychology extends beyond the confines of my private practice; I currently serve on the board of directors for the British Columbia Psychological Association, embarking on my second 2-year term.

Over the years I have learned just how amazing people are by witnessing their vulnerability, confusion, innocence, desire for growth and understanding. I see their commitment as they learn and practice new skills and evolve their understanding and perspective. I witness the strength, courage and perseverance it takes to grow one step at a time, including the stumbles along the way. I am grateful to be a part of that process with people.

I am a registered psychologist (CPBC #1373) in Victoria and founded Tina Leist & Associates in 2008. I earned a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Victoria and earned a Master’s of Science degree in Human Neuropsychology from the University of No. Colorado. I have been counselling for over 30 years in a private practice setting. I am experienced, yet down-to-earth and offer insightful, practical research-based strategies and perspectives to guide and support people. I like to work in a collaborative and personable manner that many people have found to be helpful. In my spare time; I enjoy being with my family, I love to learn and enjoy nature.

Jenna graduated from the University of Victoria in 2022 with a BA in Psychology. She is passionate about giving back to the community and has enjoyed volunteering with various community organizations in the past. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and her cat.
